I am most well known for my work with children and families providing play therapy and my contributions to the field of play therapy as a trainer, supervisor, consultant and practice-building mentor. While I am a prescriptive psychotherapist, meaning I develop treatment plans that match the presenting needs of clients rather than operating from one theoretical model with all clients, I operate fundamentally from a developmental perspective in all of my work. I meet my clients, supervisees, training participants and consultees where they are and adjust my approach accordingly.
What many people do not know about me is that I have always had a branch of my clinical work aside from my work with children and families that I have loved dearly and that is my work with adults in midlife. Midlife is defined by human development experts as the age span of 40-65. Perhaps my passion for helping people in midlife has been due to the parallel with my own personal stage of midlife since my career as a psychotherapist really blossomed when I turned 40 in 2006. I am thrilled to share that this passion-work with people in midlife has manifested through the writing and publication of The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook now available for pre-order on Amazon.
This book contains practical exercises that walk adults in midlife along a journey of identifying a sense of true self, claiming core values and beliefs, discovering the power of self-love and true self-confidence and finding true life purpose. There are case studies that provide reflection and inspiration for readers and guidance Rooted in my clinical experience, observations along with the most cutting edge research literature about midlife, I have written a book I truly believe and and will change lives for the better. The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook was designed and written in a very particular way to provide step by step guidance on a personal exploration journey like no other.
I created the exercises through a combination of somatic and cognitive behavioral techniques to provide the reader opportunity for introspection and action. The practices in The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook are the basis of the work I do with women in midlife who contract with me for midlife redesign coaching services at www.LynnLouiseWonders.com Those services are separate and apart from counseling and psychotherapy services but those clients benefit from my clinical background. The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook, however, was purposefully written to be widely accessible to women, men, non-binary, as inclusive as possible honoring the life experiences of adults everywhere.
The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook provides a tool-kit, a navigation map and warm guidance and inspiration. It can be used by therapists with clients or for individuals who want to embark on a journey of self-discovery along the way. Most people who know me did not realize the very long hours, heart and soul I was pouring into the writing of this book in 2021 as I was also publishing a new series of therapeutic children’s books, conducting training webinars all over the world and providing consultation to therapists worldwide while still seeing my clients via telehealth. The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook is evidence that when you are passionate about bringing something into the world, you can and will find the time you need to get it done.
The book itself is printed on high quality paper with colorful artwork and an ability to write directly in the book. The Midlife Self-Discovery Workbook will be a valuable addition to your own library and I hope you’ll consider placing your order. The book will be available mid January. PRE-ORDER HERE.
