On Wednesday November 18 Meyleen Velasquez,LCSW, PMH-C, RPT-S, BCD will present a one hour mini master class called Supporting Parental Mental Health in Treatment of Infants and Young Children as part of the 2020 Play Therapy Mini Master Class Series

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complication of the childbirth period, affecting about 1:5 individuals. Although common, these distressing conditions are often not discussed and most child therapists receive little to no training in screening or assessing. This one hour class session will provide brief information on the mental health conditions affecting parents and caregivers during the perinatal period, ideas for screening, and ways to support the parent-child relationship.

Meyleen Velasquez, LCSW, LICSW, PHM-C, RPT-S, BCD is a psychotherapist specializing in perinatal and infant mental health. She is a social work doctoral student at Capella University focusing her research on anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices in mental health. Her practice supports individuals identifying as women and clinicians working on practicing from an anti-oppressive framework.

I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working closely with Meyleen on several mutual projects over the past several years. She is deeply committed to her work and she is an excellent trainer. The passion she brings to this topic that is so close to her heart will inspire you to deepen your own knowledge and utilize the practical applications she will introduce in this class.

Meyleen has a YouTube channel with many very professionally created videos with loads of helpful information you can use right away with your clients. In addition to clinical services for clients, she also provides training, supervision and consultation and you can find more about her work on her website.

Why sign up for this class called Supporting Parental Mental Health in Treatment of Infants and Young Children?

There is a significant lack of cross-training within the fields of child and parental mental health. Meyleen is a pioneer in finding ways to create opportunities to learn across the fields in ways that works effectively to aid the best interest, healing and growth of parents of infants and young children in the work we do as therapists.

You can sign up for Meyleen’s class and learn about the entire 2020 Play Therapy Mini Master Class RIGHT HERE!
